MIC TITAN

Mic Titan born, Charles Escalanti, for the Xanar Xanar (Turtle) Clan of the Quechan Indian Tribe on May 14, 1980. Mic Titan has resided his entire life on the Quechan Indian Reservation located in Yuma, Arizona and Winterhaven, California the border extends all the way up to the Los Algodones Port of Entry, Baja Mexico.

Mic Titan was born to Rhonda Jackson, who makes her profession as a registered nurse and Sonny Escalati, a Union Electrician, now deceased. Mic Titan was a very independent child who later as a teenager exemplified his independence through his personal style and love for music, which was often shunned by his community due to their unfamiliarity with it. Though challenging at times to stay committed to working on and developing his talent, he stayed committed because music for him is his vice, his joy, and his opportunity to share with other his gift.

Mic Titan for the most part was raised solely by his mother and also by his maternal grandmother, Wanda Cornell. He went to school at San Pasqual Elementary-High School and graduated from High School in the late 90's. After school he immediately began working because he had a young son, Zion (Baby Cloud Titan) White, to help support. Life was a challenge during this period because he felt pulled in different directions, his family needed him and his music was calling him at the same time. Though times were sometimes difficult, Mic Titan found the balance between family and his music to make it all work.

Due to the difficulty Mic Titan faced in his community because of his choice of music, he sought out individuals that had similar interests. He collaborated early on with a number of individuals: his cousin Caine Palone, who was also from the Quechan Tribe, Earth Born out of Yuma, AZ, and Citezen Aim and First Person I now of Cerebral Arts. Mic Titan exuded leadership skills so he was often looked to for coordination of events, albums and with the development of a group owned company called Cerebral Arts Entertainment, who's motto is "Intelligent music for Intelligent People." Cerebral Arts was Mic Titan's first real effort at officially organizing his partners and their abilities. Soon after the company was formed, Mic Titan began working on setting goals for album releases and has since the forming of Cerebral Arts, released several cds: Cerebral Arts Entertainment Vol. 1 - Dec. 2006; Flood Water Airwaves - Jul. 2007; Citizen Titan - Oct. 2007; Divine Titan: Last Call - May 2008; How to Catch an Earfull - May 2008. The release of the albums have been very successful and they have many times over been repressed and reissued.

It was with the release of Divine Titan - Last Call, a collaboration with fellow Cerebral Artist, Divine Wind, of the Quechan Indian Tribe, that Mic Titan really started to open himself to his Native brothers and sisters in Indian Country. Resistant to focusing on the Indian market because of the experience that he had originally faced in his own community, he finally spoke about his personal experiences through the lyrics of "Last Call" and Indian people indentified. A trip to Washington State and Oregon for a tour contributed greatly to Mic Titan's personal growth and his views on Indian Country due to the reception that the people gave him. It was because of Mic Titan's unique understanding of "being Native" and his understanding of how people are affected by the dysfunction that often faces Indian people, that he was well received. "Finally," Mic Titan said! He found it refreshing and was happy that he could finally truly share with the world and Indian communities the plight we face as Indian people. Other people, many non-native, were also able to indentify and often approach Mic Titan sharing their own stories of survival and reminisce their experiences.
