J.D. NASH

J. D. Nash started a love for music at a very young age. Listening to country music on the family radio in the morning, and hearing his older sibling's rock and roll records in the afternoon. The love only grew stronger over time and soon consumed him.

Picking up the guitar at the age of 15 (mom didn't want drums in the house anymore) he started, as so many do, by singing in church. Weekly rehearsals, choir and theater in school and jamming with neighborhood friends honed his vocal skills. J. D. also began writing songs during these days and recording them on a cheap cassette recorder. He'll be the first to admit that he doesn't play guitar (he plays at it) he uses the flat top as a tool to write original music.

Starting out in a rock band called "Cheyenne" in the late 70's he fronted the band providing the vocals for some very talented musicians including Brian Coon, Frank "Animal" Passerella, Danny Barrazza and Jaime Cortez. Playing mostly friend's parties and whatever local biker bars they could sneak into.

In the fall of 1999, J. D. moved back to his home state of Kansas and began not only recording music, but following other local bands to their respective gigs and getting to know them, their music and styles.

In 2003, J. D. signed with RunningMouth Media, a music publishing company owned by NAMMY award winning performer, Wayquay.

In 2006 he joined forces with producer/songwriter/guitarist Shawn Ames; songwriter/guitarist Brian McGuire; bassist Danny Tallent and drummer Ron Prothe to form the group Red Circle. With almost 100 years of combined musical talent, Red Circle became a very popular local act.

From there the CD “So There I Was…” was born. Distributed online and at various live venues, the CD has sold relatively well and received radio airplay on such programs as Hand of Grandfather, Noise from the Native Nations and on KILI radio in South Dakota.

RunningMouth Media submitted 6 nominations from this CD to the Native American Music Awards in 2007. Although no nominations or awards were garnished, the band feels it is an honor that people were beginning to pay attention to the music and the message.

J. D. Nash & Red Circle have also been fortunate enough to perform with such acts as Chris Caffery of the Tran-Siberian Orchestra; Doro Pesch; Gary Hoey; Skylar Wolf; Wayquay and Buggin’ Malone.

Two songs from “So There I Was…” have also been selected by the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee for inclusion on an upcoming Peltier CD.

Current projects include work on a new CD and contributing a cover of the song, “Needles” for a Circus of Power tribute CD.
