DIVINE WIND

Divine Wind was born, Ramiro Marquez, Jr., to parents Leona Montague and Ramiro Marquez, Sr., of Yuma, Arizona. Divine Wind is an
enrolled member of the Quechan Indian Tribe of Fort Yuma, California. Reservation boundaries extend into the states of California
and Arizona, up to Los Algodones Port of Entry. Divine spend a short period of his early years on the Quechan Indian Reservation.
For the most part of Divine's life, he grew up off of the reservation. He found himself living up and down the South Western
region of both California and Arizona and then later ended up as far off reservation as Minnesota.
At an early age music proved to be an inspiration in Divine's life, he's been influenced by the sounds of Reggae; blues; funk; metal;
punk & hip hop. Divine's philosophy is that, "Music is a language of movement." Divine began reading about the history and injustice
of indigenous people; he began to tell the stories of the hardships endured by these historical peoples and figures through spoken word
and poetry. Divine spends countless a late night reading; writing; and building his consciousness, as a constant reminder that the
plight and struggle of Native voices and causes go unheard by the majority thougy they are vigilantly un-silent.
Upon polishing his skills in spoken word and poetry, Divine aligned himself with a family of independent hip-hop artists known as
Cerebral Arts Entertainment of Yuma, Arizona. Divine now practices the craft of Emceeing and becoming a recording artist, he has
appeared on Cerebral Art's last 3 projects.
Through the music, Divine Wind hopes to keep people's minds open and filled with knowledge of what Native people went through. He
hopes to also be a leader of having society move into the next stage of living with our traditions in a modern world with
equal co-existence.
